Afghanistan receives 23 tonnes of food and medical supplies from WHO

KABUL: A cargo plane loaded with 23 tons of food and medical supplies provided by the World Health Organization landed at Kabul-Hamid Karzai International Airport on Monday.

“As health needs increase in Afghanistan, we must act quickly to address medical supply shortages in order to maintain vital health services. I thank the Government of the State of Qatar for its generous and timely support, which has enabled WHO to replenish depleted stocks and respond to the needs of the most vulnerable Afghans, ”said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization. .

Another theft of humanitarian aid donated by the Qatari government is expected to arrive this week.

Meanwhile, the aid will be distributed to 280 health facilities and 31 COVID-19 public laboratories across Afghanistan. It comes as the UN Secretary-General convenes a high-level meeting on Afghanistan in Geneva. the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund is to support humanitarian aid worth $ 20 million in the war-torn country.
